This man is a smooth swindler, who assumes the part of a Catholic priest and sometimes that of a bishop. He is known by the name of Father Duperron, liishop Jleerschaert of the Indian territory and Bishop Dubois Du-bois of Vancouver. He is supposed to be a Polish Jew. He was arrested Sept. 6, ISitfi. by the Fitchburg authorities, and pleaded guilty to six counts. He was sent up for three years for forgery and larceny, and has now resumed his ! former career. A general warning has been sent out to all priests and sisters ; to be on their guard against him. The v ;J individual is about 63 or TO years of age, I live feet four and a half inches high, I dark complexion, gray hair, has one or two upper teeth missing, a scar over one eve. on unner lii and on wrist. He ppeaks German fairly well, but is deficient de-ficient on French and English. He uses many German expressions. He appears to be very humble and pious, and a manner that readily enlists sympathy. |
