Show HELENA PROTESTS AGAINST I THE BRITISH. I A rather slim audience assembled Saturday evening, Jan. 13, to attend I the "pro-Boar" meeting. The speakers were Secretary of State Hogan, Mr. Leon Lacroix and Mr. Joseph Oker. The following resolutions were road by Mr. Patrick Meaney and were unanimously unani-mously adopted: "AA'horeas, The citizens of the capital city of Montana, is mass-meating assembled, as-sembled, view with active interest the struggle now pending in the twin re- ' publics of South Africa, wherin the j question of the success of the Boer arms will at this closing year of the nineteenth century demonstrate that the forms of government . that has made the United States the foremost j nation of the earth, is worthy of success suc-cess in this latest, and we hope triumphant, tri-umphant, effort to maintain the republic re-public of the Transvaal . and Orange Free States from British greed; "AVhereas. The war now being prosecuted prose-cuted is without justification and has been prompted by Cecil Rhodes and his kind in their mad race for sold, supported by the British government that advances as an argument for its unjust position 'the taxing of the Uit-landers Uit-landers without permitting them to participate in the affairs of government,' govern-ment,' a claim which is without foundation, foun-dation, as the lawa of naturalization j ate open to all who wish to conform to them; therefore, be it "Resolved, That we extend to Presidents Presi-dents Kruger and Steyn and their valiant va-liant followers thai sympathy and best wishes of Montana's capital for the success of their cause, and that victory vic-tory may mean the establishment of the Unitod States of South Africa; "Resolved, That we pledge our moral and financial aid toward furnishing nurses, ambulances and medicines for those that may fall in this unjustifiable unjustifi-able war; . . 'Resolved, That, as citizens of this nation, we object to the existence of any secret alliance with Great Britain and to the use of the influence of the United States to the injury of a people struggling for liberty." f Report states that Rt. Father Dey is rapidly recovering recover-ing from his recent illness. His many parishioners are pleased to see his kind, familiar face bloom with health once more. Mr. J. T. Laws has charge of the interests in-terests of The Intermountain Catholic in city and vicinity. Subscriptions and items of Catholic interest should be handed to him. Paul McCormick, jr., is slowly recovering recov-ering from a severe attack of pneumonia. pneumo-nia. His many Salt Lake friends anxiously an-xiously a.wait his recovery and speedy-return speedy-return to their midst. . On Jan. 23. in the Opera House. Father Fath-er MacCorry will deliver his famous "Story Beautiful." On this, asi on other occasions, his marvelous word painting, we feal safe in saying, will vie in brilliancy and expression with the masterpieces of the painters' art thrown upon the screen. On the 2nth the lecture will be given in Marysville. Proceeds in both cases go to charity. |
