Show JOINS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. Mrs. Roesch, Wife of a New York Judge, Confirmed at Ogdensburg. Ogdensburg, N. Y., Jan. 11. In the presence of Eishop Gabriels. Father Conroy and clergy and nuns of the Sacred Heart convent, Mrs. George F. Roesch, wife of Judge Roesch of New-York, New-York, was received into the Roman Catholic church yesterday at the Sacred Sa-cred Heart chapel. Rev. J. H. Conroy, rector of St. Mary's cathedral, performed the baptismal bap-tismal service, which was followed by the celebration of mass, during which the neophyte received her first communication. com-munication. After the mass, Bishop Gabriels administered the sacrament of confirmation. Miss Haste of Brooklyn acted as sponsor. ' Mrs, Roesch began her novitiate three years ago under the instruction of Rev. J. H. Conroy. Judge Roesch first met Father Conroy about eighteen yeara ago at a Catholic convention held, in AVashington and formed a friendship which ripened into an intimacy when ' they met at a nights of Columbus national na-tional council held in New York three- years ago. At that time Mrs. Ttoesch, j then a Protestant, decided to join the Catholic church. . Judge and Mrs. Roesch were tendered a grand reception in Knights of Columbus Co-lumbus hall last evening. Just six weeks ago last AYednesday j Judge Roesch was married to Miss . Frances A. Lederle. The wedding occurred oc-curred at the home of her parents, Mr. j and Mrs. Francis A. Lederle, No. 205 East Tenth street. The ceremony was , performed by the Rev. Father Eugene ' J. Donnelly, rector of St. Michael's Roman Catholic church at Flushing, L. I. Mrs. Roesch had been educated at the Sisters' academy there. The wedding was quite a notable event, a large number of prominent politicians being present. Congressman William Sulzer acted as Mr. Roesch's best man. |
