Show Park Service Plans Kolob Area Access Road in 1963 According to an announcement made this week by the National Parks Service, construcfion of the long awaited highway into the Kolob section of Zion National Park will be started in 19(33. Expenditures Ex-penditures of $ii;o,(HK) for the first leg of this important scenic sce-nic highway has been programmed program-med for the 19G3 fiscal year. The park road will join an interchange on an already completed com-pleted segment of Interstate Highway 15 just south of the Iron-Washington County line and extended to Lee Pass, where a parking area and lookout are planned. An estimated $800,000 will be needed to complete the highway beyond Lee Pass to an overlook near Timber Creek. The alignment of the section beyond has not yet been determined de-termined but is now being studied stu-died by a landscape architect, according to Frank Oberhansley, Superintendent, Zion National Park. |
