He may not worship the right thing, in the right way, but he will worship wor-ship something, some way. It is our purpose, in this article, and others to follow, to study the worship of the church. I think, first of all, that we should point out the correct cor-rect concept of worship. Worship is not simply the performing per-forming of certain acts. The primary purpose of worship 3 G recognize God as God and nay Him reverence. With-oura With-oura proper knowledge of the onetrue God, and the worship wor-ship desired of Him, one's worship will not be acceptable to Him. There are several kinds of unacceptable worship mentioned men-tioned in the New Testament. Paul mentioned one in his address to the Athenians on Mar's Hill, when he said, "Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, devo-tions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN UN-KNOWN GOD. Whom therefor ye ignorantly worship him declare I unto you" (Acts 17:22-23). While these people had erected an altar to God, they did not know Him, and could not please I Iim with their ignorant worship. Jesus once condemned the Pharisees with the words, "Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying. This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matt. 15:7-9). The vain worship wor-ship of these Jews consisted in placing their traditions upon a par with the commandments of God. In Colossians 2:23 Paul speaks of certain ordinances "which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship." wor-ship." Will worship is that which is devised by self as distinguished dis-tinguished from that which is given by God. If a man says, "I know what the Scriptures teach, but I prefer it this way, and I will have it the way I want it," he is guilty of placing his will above that of God.. Mark records, concerning the Roman soldiers and Christ, "They smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him" (Mark 15:19-20). They worshipped Him, but with mockery. Anyone that pretends to worship God, but who in reality ridicules Him, whether purposely or not, is guilty of mock worship. In this article we have pointed out several types of worship that are unacceptable to God. In our next article we will study concerning acceptable worship. SCHEDULE OF SERVICES 10 a. m.
