Show Cedar City Jaycees Turn On Lights For Holidays, Santa Visit Planned Yuletide season in Cedar City was offically welcomed in Saturday Satur-day evening when the Junior Chamber of Commerce turned on the Christmas lights. Hosts of residents were in downtown Cedar City Saturday at 6 p. m. for the event although a special program was not con- j ducted. Also Cedar City merchants kept stores open until 8 p. m. to J allow those in town to do some of their Christmas shopping and, to view the gift suggestions and selections for Christmas giving. The lights this year have a new look with the banners across Main Street on an angle with additional ornaments in the center cen-ter of each of the strands. In addition ad-dition each of the strands are identically lighted and the col ors change from strand to strand. CeiUer piece for the entire decoration dec-oration system is the large bell at the intersection of Main Street and Harding Avenue. Lamp polls on either side of Main Street also have lighted plastic candy canes on the East and large illuminated candles on the West side of the street. On the North and South entrances, en-trances, signs bearing the greetings, greet-ings, "Merry Christmas" are also a part of the display along with the lighting of the huge pine tree on the Union Pacific Depot property on 200 North Main, all in blue, topped with a white star. The lighting system is an expanded ex-panded system with tinseled strands which are expected to be used from year to year, and added add-ed upon, those In charge stated. The lighting is the first of a series of special Christmas activities activ-ities annually undertaken by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Later in the month the annual Santa Claus visit to the community com-munity will be sponsored and the Home Lighting contest. Santa's San-ta's visit has been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 16. Following the auditions the students were placed and section practices were undertaken. Saturday, they assembled together to-gether to study their numbers under the guiding hand of Dr. Sawhlff and the event was culminated cul-minated Saturday evening in an "All-Region Band Concert," that was open to the public. "Beauty of this All-Region hand Is the fact that more students stu-dents get to participate In this sharing of musical Interpretation and ideas," Johnson said. |
