' Six-Week Course Is First Offered In" Area Over 200 scouters of the Uintah Basin are expected to gather Friday Fri-day evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Roosevelt Jr. High School for the opening session of the first University Uni-versity of Scouting staged in the Uintah Basin. Last minute registrations will be received during Friday's opening session, it was explained by James E. Bacon, University of Scouting chairman, and Rulon Dean Skinner, Uintah Basin field executive. Seven courses are being offered simultaneously during the University Univer-sity of Scouting, which will run for six Fridays Nov. 4, 11, 18, 25, Dec. 2 and 9. Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Exploring, Ex-ploring, Unit Committees, Guide Patrol, Commissioners, and District Dis-trict Committees are the courses being be-ing offered under the direction of local instructors who are guided in their preparations by Rulon Dean Skinner, field Scout executive. execu-tive. Begins At 7:30 P.M. Each evening's program will be- gin promptly at 7:30 p.m. with an inspirational opening ceremony. A two-hour class session from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. will be held under the direction of instructors and their assistants. "This is the biggest thing we've ever attempted," was the comment of Rowan C. Stutz, who will instruct in-struct the Boy Scout department. Paul Murphy, instructor of the District Dis-trict Committee group, added, "If our leaders will attend the University Univer-sity of Scouting we'll see a growth in scouting here in the Basin never dreamed possible." s Ready To Go "We're ready to go," was the report of Jack Dexter, Cub Scout instructor at last Sunday's meeting of the University of Scouting Committee Com-mittee in Roasevelt for last minute check-ups. These are typical, statements state-ments of the men directing the University of Scouting as they veiw with optimism Friday's opening, Louis Fife will head the Explorer Explor-er department; J. Ferron Hacking, the Guide Patrol; George Hacking, Commissioners; and Elwood Carter and Elvin Barker, Unit Committees. A certificate will be issued every scouter completing the course. One must be 18 years of age or older to attend. |
