Show Union Teacher Talks At P-TA P-TA was held at Alterra on Thursday evening, March 1, with a fair representation of parents, especially mothers, and teachers, Paul Barton, of Union High School gave a very interesting talk. He was a substitute speaker. The dentists from Vernal had disappointed disap-pointed the P-TA officers. Mr. Burgener and his string orchestra played some very lovely music. The ladies from Fort Duchesne served ice cream and cake to those present. Max Gardner of Salt Lake City, was a caller at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Kettle last Monday. Mon-day. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Ross acconv panied their grandson, James Ross, and wife on a trip to Salt Lake City on Feb. 26. Mr. and Mrs. Max Todd and two children visited in Maeser, Feb. 26 with Mrs. Todd's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Gardner. Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Pool and three children of Granger, spent the weekend at the homes of Mr. and Mrs, George Bracken and Mr. and Mrs. Elton Kettle. VISIT LUNCH ROOM Rulon Ashby of Salt Lake City, head man of the Utah hot lunch program, accompanied by Mrs. Lola Christe'nsen and Supt. Max Abbott of Vernal, visited a short time in the Alterra lunch room on Thursday. Mrs. Wesley Ercanbrack, who spent several days over a week ago in the Roosevelt Hospital with a broken leg, was taken back there Monday and from the X-ray they found her leg had knit very nicely. Several of the Relief Society ladies of the ward have been assisting in the home while she has been laid up. Ernest Betts, who has been quite ill again was taken by members of his family to a doctor in Vernal Ver-nal during the' past week, where he received madical care. Mr. and Mrs. Elbie Winn and small son, Clark, returned Tuesday Tues-day evening from Grant's Pass, Oregon and Phoenix, Arizona, where they had spent their vacation. vaca-tion. Mrs. Mary Burgess' fourth grade pupils presented a splendid program pro-gram at Alterra on Wednesday afternoon. af-ternoon. Earl Gardner made a trip to Salt Lake City during the week for the' government. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sprouse left Sunday morning for Wellington, Welling-ton, after receiving the sad news of the death of her sister, Mrs. Azel Thayne. They would remain for the' funeral to be held there on Monday. Mrs, Thayne is survived sur-vived by her husband, ten children and three sisters. Mrs. Zane Asay was a visitor in Salt Lake City last week. Word has been received from Clifton Jenkins, who is in the' Navy, that he was being transferred trans-ferred from the base he was stationed sta-tioned to San Diego, Calif., where he will attend ten weeks of special spe-cial training. Clifton, whose' time was up in the armed forces some time ago, has re-enlisted for four years. His wife has been with him for some time. Snellen Johnson was one from Ballard to participate in the' Seminary Sem-inary Declamation talks given in Roosevelt Sunday evening. VISITS WITH SONS Mrs. Earl Gardner and small daughter returned home Tuesday evening from Phoenix, Arizona, where she' had spent some time assisting in the home of her brother, Ferris Winn and wife. Mrs. Winn had had an operation. While in Arizona, she went to visit her son, Gary, at San Carlos, where he is laboring as an LDS missionary. Mrs, Gardner reports that Gary is well and enjoying his mission among the Apache Indians. In-dians. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Todd of Randlett made a trip to Provo last week. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Earl McKenna while there. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Winn entertained enter-tained at dinner on Sunday, Feb. 26 for Earl Gardner and daughter Margie and Mrs. Effie Winn. The' occasion was Margie's birthday. A FAMILY GET-TO-GETHER Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kettle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cook and family, Mr. and Mrs. Junior Betts and family of Roosevelt, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Betts and family of Tridell all met at the Ernest Betts home one evening last week and enjoyed a family get-to-gether. Refreshments were served-. This included all the Betts family. They observed several birthdays occurring occur-ring in February and March. Mrs. Mary Burgess - and her room enjoyed a visit at the Central Cen-tral School in Vernal one day last week. Word comes from Virginia that Mr. and Mrs, Lynn Bracken arrived ar-rived at their destination Feb. 22. They enjoyed enroute visits with converts of Lynn's while on an LDS mission, at Casper, Wyoming and Rapid City, South Dakota. They spent some time at Nauvoo visiting some of the church places. Lynn will attend an Engineer Engi-neer School at Fort Belvoir, Va. for some time. They are living at Alexandria, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph O'Neil have moved into the house on the Cos-turos Cos-turos place vacated by the Erie' Hatches last spring. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart have moved into the apartment vacated by the O'Neils. Mr, and Mrs. Albin McBride of Burley, Idaho, spent last weekend with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Merkley. Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Stewart of Tooele have been recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McMullins. Mrs. Annie Anderson of Mtn. Home visited with her daughter and son-in-law. |
