Show By Mrs. Merle Ross Arcadia Is Host To Scout Meeting Sunday afternoon Arcadia was host to the stake's Boy Scout Court of Honor. Stake Advancement Advance-ment Counselor Cliff Mickelson was in charge and awards were given by Rulon Skinner, Regional Scouter, and Elvin Barker, District Dis-trict Commissioner. The wards that participated were: Tabiona, Duchesne, Hanna, and Arcadia. Six boys from here received their Tenderfoot badges, Laird and Baird Evans, Evan Lusty, Lus-ty, Frosty Gilbert, Rollen Capson and Leon Ross. Bob Tanner received re-ceived a merit badge on citizenship citizen-ship in the home. Two films were shown, one on camping in the High Uintas, and another on the Duchesne Camporee. Gladys Bell, who teachers at Altamont, attended the convene tion for secondary teachers in Vernal, Wednesday evening. President Hale Holgate, Stanley Ross and Jack Gilbert attended a priesthood leadership meeting in Roosevelt Saturday evening. HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. Frank Holgate and children, Brent and Susan of Myton were Friday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Larsen. Litt'.e Susan especially enjoyed it as it was in honor of her birthday. j The children of Mr. and Mrs.: Francis Ross of Myton stayed with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ross, while their parents made a business trip to Provo and Salt Lake ' Mr. and Mrs. Gale Eldredge of Vernal spent Thursday and Friday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Johnson. ' Mr. and Mrs. Chad Evans left Saturday night for Salt Lake for a week's vacation. They plan on visiting friends and relatives and doing Temple work. Their children, Sherry and Keith are staying with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hale Holgate. A large crowd from Arcadia joined the through that greeted the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Ru-lon Skinner at their wedding reception re-ception in Duchesne Saturday night. Congratulations go to this very deserving young couple. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Richens and daughter, Karolee, Dick Burch and son, Terry of Salt Lake City were Sunday afternoon visitors vis-itors at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. John Richens and Henry Richens. BUY POLAR QUEEN The "sale of the week" was made when Mr. and Mrs, John Gilbert purchased the "Polar Queen" in Duchesne from Gilbert Horrocks of Salt Lake City and Ned Fairbanks of Ogden. Best of luck to the Gilberts in their new venture. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mower of Provo were' Sunday dinner guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milt Larsen. FARMERETTES MEET The Farmerette Club spent an enjoyable and entertaining evening at the' home of Nancy Gilbert on Monday. The ciub officers are certainly getting some splendid programs for the members. This time thanks go to the Landscape Floral of Roosevelt. Mrs. Jack Rasmussen and her mother, Mrs. Don Shelton, demonstrated, centerpieces center-pieces and floral arrangements. A lovely lunch was served to seventeen seven-teen members at the close of the evening. Numbers were drawn for the special centerpiece that had been made. County Demonstration Agent Mary Lois Reichert, was the lucky person. Ila Tanner and Barbara Gilbert were co-hostesses for the occasion. After visiting friends and relatives rela-tives for a few days here, Orvil Larsen was taken to Myton by Mr. and Mrs. Milt Larsen. He visited vis-ited his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hadden, from where1 he took the bus to Quincy, Washington to spend some time with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Larsen. The spring quarter at the BYU will find him back and enrolled as another G.I. taking advantage of a golden opportunity. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Miller and son, Mark, and Shauna Gilbert of Salt Lake City spent the weekend at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gilbert. Stanley Ross had the honor of blessing his twin grandchildren at Sacrament meeting Sunday. They were given the names of Glen and Gwen. They are the new babies of Mr. and Mrs. Max Ross Gladys Bell attended a D.E.A meeting in Duchesne Tuesday evening. eve-ning. Ora Holgate, Nancy Gilbert and Barbara Gilbert accompanied Rose Gilbert of Myton to Tridell Friday, Fri-day, where they attended a quilting quilt-ing at the home of Mrs. Jack Goodrich. SURPRISED BY FRIENDS Tuesday, Arlene Gilbert was very happily surprised by a group of friends, Virgie Thompson, Betty Campbell, Vera Larsen, Barbara ' Gilbert, Ora Holgate', May Shields Geneva Gilbert, Margaret Ross' Gladys Capson, Betty Evans and Nancy Gilbert. Refreshments were served and the guest of honor presented with a beautiful baby quilt and a layette of dainty litto "pink things," with the promise they could be exchanged later should she decide on blue. Mrs. Steve Hamilton received word that the baby of her nephew Mr. and Mrs. Mason Smith of Park City, was seriously ill. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gilbert and family went to Duchesne Sunday to visit her mother, Mrs. Porter MerreJl, who had suffered' a heart attack earlier in the week. She is a patient at the Duchesne Health Center, where she is making a satisfactory recovev. Mrs. Arta Ross, twins and son Ned, accompanied Mr. and Mrs'. Wells Rasmussen to Rangely, Colo. Sunday afternoon. They returned Monday, bringing Lorin Rasmussen Rasmus-sen of Duchesne with them. He had just become a new father and was coming home to get acquainted acquaint-ed with his family. RELIEF SOCIETY PRESENTS SUNDAY NIGHT PROGRAM The theme of the Relief Society's special program Sunday night was "Search Ye the Scriptures for in Them Ye' Have Eternal Life, and They Are They Which Testify of Me." A most interesting talk on the theme was given by Vera Larsen. Lar-sen. Other talks on favorite passages pas-sages of scripture were given by Bessie Lusty, Margaret Ross, Ila Tanner, Laverna Lusty and Ora Holgate. Bishop Garn Gilbert paid a tribute to the Relief Society. So-ciety. Mrs. Marion Shields, a stake representative, gave a short talk and Naomi Gilbert rendered a solo. Ora Holgate was also a stake representative. The school bus took a load of students to the Union - Uintah basketball game Friday night. It proved to be a game that will long be remembered. Mr. and Mrs, Arch Larsen at-tended at-tended the basketball game in Roosevelt Friday night. They are real fans, having taken in practically prac-tically all the games this year. |
