Show 3 DAYS III COUNTY 4-11 CAMP ByCarol Todd Our .Duchesne County 4-H Camp was held at Yellowstone Camp Grounds on July 29, 30, 31. 1953, with Robert S. Mur-dock, Mur-dock, Duchesne county agent, and Mary Lois Reichert, home demonstration agent in charge of camp. There were 285 club members and leaders; 205 were girls and women, and 80 were boys and men at this camp. Also visiting " with us was Grant Harris and his family, who is the Extension forester; Jessie Palm, district forest ranger, and Ed Rawley, Utah Fish and Game. We arrived at camp at noon, pitched camp and at 2:30 held a council meeting. At this meeting meet-ing we elected our Camp officers offi-cers and committees and voted on our committee chairmen. Our Camp officers were voted on that night at our campfire program. pro-gram. Our camp officers - and committee com-mittee chairmen were: N a d i n e Chugg, Roosevelt, mayor; Etheline Burton, Tal-mage, Tal-mage, assistant mayor; Carol Todd, Roosevelt, secretary; John Percival, Ioka, chief of police; N a d e n e Ottosen, Roosevelt, campfire chairman; Renae El-dredge, El-dredge, Roosevelt, recreation chairman; Keith Lemon, Ioka, handicraft chairman; Af ton Richens, Myton, LeRoy Molton, Arcadia, sports co - chairmen; Virginia Nelson, Myton, game equipment; Lawrence Young, flag raising chairman; Beth Winkler, Bluebell, clean camp chairman; Lois Goodrich, courtesy cour-tesy chairman. That night we held our Camp-fire Camp-fire Program with several clubs participating. Grant Harris related re-lated a bear experience he had at the end Of the program. We had our Flag Raising at 8:30 Thursday morning with handicraft, nature study, and games following. Our handicraft was braiding flat and round belts, etc. It "rained all afternoon, so we couldn't do much, but that night we held our Campfire Program and had a parents' night. The rest of the clubs presented part on the program, and prizes were given to the top three clubs. Friday we started with Flag Raising and a scavenger hunt. Such things as a size nine shoe, Mrs. Harris' signature, a salamander, sala-mander, pork and bean can, etc. 'were included in this scavenger hunt. Prizes were given to the first three who' came in first and complete. We started an Awards and Quiz Program, but got rained out and had to go to camp until it quit. Lucky numbers received prizes and awards were given. We all broke camp at noon and started home until the bridge broke down, and then there was a slight delay, but everyone got home safely and enjoyed the camping trip. |
