Show 2 For Courthouse .... 10.95 Mill Levy Set By Duchesne County, Increase Over Last Year At the last regular meeting' of the Board of Commissioners I for Duchesne County, the 1953 tax levy was approved, which has been set at 10.95 mills. This levy shows an increase of 3.45 mills over the 1952 levy which was 7.50. According to the records of the county the '53 levy was set- on a basis of an approximate $8,500,000 assessed valuation for the county. The 1953 budget bud-get was set at $219,063. Two mills of the 3.45 mill increase in-crease has been added to the bond interest and sinking fund and is for the new courthouse that is now under construction. The airport levy was eliminated, elim-inated, but a .50 mill levy for memorials was added; and the levy for agricultural aid was doubled to take care of the expenses ex-penses of a home demonstration agent. The .20 mill levy for 1952 was for the agricultural agent only. There is a .25 mill decrease for the combined levy of poor and indigent, and a $.75 mill increase for general county purposes. This is the same as for 1952 and 1951. The levy has been adopted formally for-mally by the Duchesne County Commissioners. The county school levy is made up of the 8.00 mills for operation and maintenance in excess of minimum program; additional purchase of sites and buildings (capital outlay), 5.15 mills; and 6.85 mills debt service. ser-vice. The state has levied a 3.6 mill property tax for 1953. There was no state levy last year. This means Duchesne County taxpayers are subject to. 10.95 mill levy for Duchesne County operation, 20.00 mills for the operation of the Duchesne County Coun-ty School District, and the com-I com-I bined state and local school levy of 8.9 mills, making a total levy of 39.85 mills. Last year the total general levy for this county coun-ty was 33.90 mills. This 5.95 mill increase will amount to a raise of $5.95 per $1,000 assessed assess-ed valuation to taxpayers living liv-ing outside the limits of in-qorporated in-qorporated cities. |
