Small, Fast And Deadly Our elite offensive backfield may be small in physical size, compared to some, but the four running backs could give a coach enough speed to run away with a sprint relay title. BOUNTIFUL'S Bruce Talbot and View-mont's View-mont's Steve Caputo both earned first team honors with Steve being a repeater from last year's club. This past-season Talbot carried the ball for the Braves a total of 223 times and he took full advantage of every carry as he netted a total of 1 151 yards. Using simple math, and that's the only kind I know, Bruce racked up 5.2 yards each time he laid his hands on the football. BRUCE was definitely the workhorse for the Bountiful offense but he proved extremely durable dur-able during the season. Bruce had two games in which he gained over 200 yards plus three in which he gained over 150 yards. He was also effective as a pass receiver as he picked up another 250 yards in that department, not to mention the yardage he managed as a punt returner. There was no doubt that Bruce was all-county material and several college scouts are paying close attention to him right now. Caputo closed out his great three year career The all-county backfield of Bruce Talbot (33) Bountiful, Dean Foulger (31) Clearfield, Rick Secrist (11) Davis, Ryan Smith (22) Davis and Steve Caputo (31) Viewmont would give any defense fits with their speed and power. - as a Viking by picking up 711 yards on 142 carries, that also averages out to a 5.0 per carry average. Not only was Steve a threat as a runner run-ner but his mere presence on the field was an advantage to Viewmont and on many occasions occa-sions the Vikes used him as an effective decoy to open up other avenues for their offense. STEVE has excellent hands and speed which has caught the eye of college scouts. While some feel his size may be a drawback to playing play-ing college, others point to his determination 1 and will-power as the over-riding factor. Capu- I to will play college football next year some- 1 where and he'll succeed at it. ' Rick Secrist was our choice as the first team quarterback for this all-star extravaganza. The six-foot senior from Davis was an intrical part Df the Dart's perfect 5-0 record. Over an 11-iame 11-iame span, up until the Alta contest, Rick helped the offense mount over 200 points, just 3elow 20 points per game. |
