Show Dave Says Jazz Up Old Tricks 8y DAVE WIGHAM , Clipper Sports I have this friend out of state named Howard who makes a couple of ski trips out to Utah in the winter. During his stay he does manage to take in some Utah Jazz games and each year he comes in he decides that there is no change in the club. WAIT TILL he sees this year's version of the Jazz. Honestly Howard there really isn't anything new to see. Sure some of the names are different, diffe-rent, it seems the Jazz took a math class over the summer and decided it was easier to keep three players for the price of one. So off went John Durren and Carl Nicks. James Hardy is nolongerwith us I guess they decided six years as enough time to learn the offense and since lie hadn't they didn't sign him again. THERE WAS one game that you would have liked. It was last week when the Jazz lost to Atlanta. I know the results were the same but it asfun to watch the team play as a team. You s A.D. didn't dress, truth is he was in the hospital. I take nothing away from A.D. he's a , great offensive player but for once all five play-on play-on the Jazz got involved in the offense. Ttee guys actually passed the ball around and hit the open man. The game before that, against Denver, we on press row sat and etched the old Jazz offense, you've seen it here four guys stand by the three point range watch A.D. do his thing. But the Atlanta Pmt was great. The Jazz ran and passed and Nnyone got into the scoring act. I The home team gave it their all and they erc fun to watch. If the truth were known the N'crs were actually smiling and giving each 0,,1-'r encouragement. No one got upset or pouted because they weren't getting their share of the shots. Howard would have loved ""s game. THE THING I can't understand though was p ct that many, including some sports wri-lcrs' wri-lcrs' fdt with A.D. they would have won the -"me. Reasoning being the Jazz lost by only points and A.D. gets over 30 a night. I on t buy that for a minute. The team wouldn't aNe Played the same with A.D. They never Jo. Howard has said all along the Jazz would be 't if they spread the offense out more. Sure , D- W'H still score his points but he'd prob-ll prob-ll Kore more if other teams didn't double i him. The only way to stop that is to pass l lCNl around and hit the open man. , j SPEAKlNG of ihe Jazz the fans are getting tn nght brutal. On several occassions now ,e have booed Danny Schaves. When asked ut this Dan simply stated. "If I ran for omce unopposed in this area, I would The rumors are flving around the Salt Palace 'e days but the best one has Frank Layden PP'ng down as head coach before the new Proh ?0blem with that is that the Jazz would rr.an ' make his son Scott the neW head 'ow that's a great rumor. |
