Show By GARY R. BLODGETT Salt Lake Gulls baseball team has announced its home schedule for the 1983 season. Gulls' general manager Roger Russell said there will be 82 home games, opening with the Albuquerque Dukes on Tuesday, April 19. MOST OF the home games will be played in 4-game 4-game series, except with the Hawaii Islanders come to town for an 8-game home stand between June 26 and July 3. The Gulls will play every team in the Pacific Coast Baseball League, ending the regular season against the Portland Beavers in Portland Sept. I. GULLS' GAMES, both at home and on the road --except --except an eight-game series in Hawaii -- will be broadcast this year over radio station KPRQ (1230 AM). "Also, we are working with radio stations in both Provo and Ogden in hopes of forming a three-station three-station Gulls' baseball network - thus allowing fans all along the Wasatch Front to follow the games. : Mr. Russell said 1982 was a successful season, "but you ain't seen anything yet. Salt Lake's Gulls are the team to see in 1983." ; HE NOTED that when the team was purchased last year, the ownership felt the area held a great deal of promise. ; "I projected that the team would attract a half million fans a year within three years," he said. "Although we didn't have the time last year (because the team was purchased less than 45 days prior to the opening of the season) to market or promote the club the way we know how, we promise to to do everything every-thing possible to attract crowds to the ballpark next season. "ALONG with promotions -- such as the San Diego ChickeT and premium giveaways -- we will have special attractions and promotional events throughout the season, including special family and children nights," said Mr. Russell. He explained that to assist with the mass marketing market-ing and promotional efforts, six new members have been added to the Gulls' front office, making the local baseball staff one of the largest marketing staffs in organized baseball.
