Show BSA Winners Announced The Bountiful Jaycees and Jaycee Auxiliary presented two special awards during a banquet held Feb. 24 at the North Seas Restaurant. DR. STEVEN R.Mimnaugh, an emergency room physician at Lakeview Hospital, has been named winner of the "Distinguished Service Award" by the Bountiful Jaycees. Elizabeth L. Willey, an assistant professor of nursing for Brigham Young University, was honored as "Outstanding Young Woman" by the Bountiful Jaycee Auxiliary. The awards are presented annually to a young man and woman ages 18 to 35 w ho have best provided service to others, demonstrated leadership leader-ship ability, and shown business busi-ness and personal growth during dur-ing the past year. THE AWARDS were given out by keynote speaker, John Covey, director of leadership training for the LDS Church. In his address, Mr. Covey discussed dis-cussed the importance of leadership. His leadership definition de-finition is best represented by the letters used to spell the word "Vital." Leadership is "Vision, initiative, in-itiative, timing, attitude, and love." Mr. Covey spoke for all Bountiful Jaycees and Auxiliary Auxili-ary members by stating that the accomplishments of the award winners and nominees "...builds my faith, because we are honoring creators. It builds my desire that better may we live tomorrow, and tomorrows after that." DISTINGUISHED service award winner, Dr. Mimnaugh, was commended for his com-munity com-munity service to "SPLORE," an organization he serves as chairman, and was co-founder. SPLORE stands for "Special Populations Popula-tions Learning Outdoor Recreation-Education." As Chairman Chair-man of SPLORE, Dr. Mimnaugh Mim-naugh organizes, raises funds, and operates this non-profit corporation to provide positive posi-tive experiences in the outdoors out-doors for handicapped people. He uses experience as a professional pro-fessional Whitewater river oiiirtp nnH as a nhvsirian tn train a large volunteer staff to guide handicapped people through the river wilderness for outdoor activities not available avail-able previously to these special spe-cial populations. SPLORE serves hundreds of people each year, including physically-impaired, wheelchair, wheel-chair, deaf, blind, mentally retarded, re-tarded, autistic, diabetic, elderly, juvenile legal offender and cerebral palsy groups, as well as cancer and rehabilitation rehabilita-tion patients. THESE activities enhance each participant's self-esteem, increase confidence about Elizabeth A. Willey and Dr. Steven R. Mimnaugh were chosen Outstanding Young Woman and Outstanding Out-standing Young Man of Bountiful for 1983. Each received the annual Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from the Bountiful Jaycees and Jaycee Auxiliary. capabilities as a handicapped person, as well as provide a genuinely enjoyable, challenging, challeng-ing, and safe recreational opportunity.
