Show MleflirJesiPDamis Eireitiuii Season Twelth century monks abandoning the monastery "to pursue the good life"; dancing bears, mecnamcai dolls and enchanted Christmas Christ-mas trees; fairy godmothers, glass slippers and happy endings; end-ings; all this plus new and exciting ex-citing premier works will be a part of Ballet West's 1975-76 season, a season that promises to be the most exciting yet. OPENING the performance perfor-mance season Oct. 15-18 will be "Carmina Burana," the spectacular modern ballet by John Butler that took Salt Lake balletomanes by storm last spring. Receiving repeated curtain calls, excited shouts of "Bravo!", whistling and thunderous standing ovations from sell-out crowds, "Car-. "Car-. mina Burana" promises to be an exciting experience for all. CARL Orff's musical masterpiece mas-terpiece will come to life under the baton of Ardean Watts, who will lead both the Utah Symphony Orchestra and the Utah Chorale in the spectacular rendering of "Carmina Burana." Returning for an unprecedented 21st season Dec. 26-31 will be the holiday class'C "The Nutcracker." Choreographed over 30 years ago by William F. Christen- sen, artistic director of Ballet West, (the first American to mount "The Nutcracker") it was first performed in Salt Lake City by the University of Utah Theatre Ballet in 1954. Since then, it has become a holiday must for Salt Lake audiences. DISCOVERY" Season will run Feb. 11-14, and as in the past will offer four works in an exciting evening for ballet goers. World premiers and familiar works from the repertoire will be presented to please the most discriminating ballet tastes -from the classics to modem. The 1975-76 season will come to a close March 24-27 with William F. Christensen's enchanting "C inderella." A FAVORITE of Salt Lake audiences, Ballet West has received numerous requests to perform "Cinderella" again since the ballet's last showing in the fall of 1970. Keeping in the Christensen tradition of American firsts, "Cinderella" is no exception. William Christensen again was the first American choreographer to mount this timeless fairy tale on an American stage. Enjoyable for children and adults alike, t "Cinderella" should prove to ' be a delightful trip into the world of fantasy for the little bit of "child" in everybody. |
