Show By ALICE MITCHELL 295-1156 . The words, "sandbagging" and "flooding" were on the lips of all residents of the area during the week. There was water, water, 4nd more water everywhere. The danger of freezing of growing plants and of fruit trees was also ever present. In between times all able bodied persons worked hurriedly to beautify their lots. And in spite of flooded basements and in- terrupted schedules, life continued con-tinued at a frantic pace. Martha Edmonds celebrated celebrat-ed her 75th birthday. In honor of the event she was entertained enter-tained at a party at the Red Flame Restaurant Wednesday Wednes-day night. All her children and the married nieces and nephews got together. Children, who planned the celebration included: Berl and June Cook, Charles and Donna Gibbs, Merlin and Rayone Adams, Joe and Beverly Anderson, Horace and Dianna Edmonds, Gary and Leona Edmonds, Tom and Diane Wilson, Richard and Kathy Atwood, and Jerry and Linda Reed. Kay Stephens brightened the scene with a trip to Temple Square with her Sunday Sun-day School class of the Third -Ward. They also enjoyed a visit to the Beehive House. Kay found time in between to entertain her sister Debbie and baby, from Phoenix. Irv. and Esther Layton entertained en-tertained Irv's brother Ivan and wife Ellen, at dinner Saturday. Sa-turday. Ivan and wife had entertained en-tertained Irv and Esther at dinner earlier. They reside in Hunter. Irv and Esther and many of their neighbors had the exciting experience of seeing the flood waters come up to their doorstep Saturday night and Sunday morning. Bud and Helen Layton had an interesting Saturday evening even-ing and many hours later. Helen presented the following students in a piano recital Saturday evening. Tim Bangerter, Ban-gerter, Erin McKean, Carrie Hess, Charese Nebeker, Jeremy Scott, Jason Scott, Heather Knudsen, Colleen Schofield, Susan Mcllrath, Scott Hess, Mark Curtis, Claire Elliott, Michelle Nebeker, Valarie Anderson, Diane Watson, Gina Mitchell, Robin Sweatfield, Karen Jensen, LaMar Bangerter, Cheryl Bangerter, and Diane Hess. In the midst of the recital Bud was called out because of the rising waters in the city. He and Mayor Jerry Thompson, Thomp-son, city councilmen, and others spent the entire night and the next day trying to keep the waters from doing damage to the city. Bud's own basement was filled, as were the basements of many in the city. Mrs. C. C. Wood was delightedly surprised when she was "visited by" the family of former Bishop Kenneth Ken-neth Sweatfield. They brought their family evening to her home. Each member of the family took part and refreshments refresh-ments were served. Mrs. Wood reports that the very pleasant evening was one which she will never forget. Nanella Jones came back to town after her visits with her children in the west and in the east. Clara Johnson is sure that happiness is having great grandchildren. This week her granddaughter, Pam Taylor, of Salt Lake City, presented her with a new great-granddaughter. Jeff Mitchell, son of the. Eli Mitchells, won the state championship, in the 880 yard dash, at Weber State last Saturday. Sa-turday. The Mitchells are justly proud of the fact that his excellence in athletics has brough him many offers to attend college next year. This week he was the guest of the BYU Athletic Department. Wayne Mitchell returned home from the hospital and, hopefully, will be soon feeling much better. Jan Chambers has been staying with the Arch Wid-disons Wid-disons during the past month. She is up from beaver, and is patiently awaiting a visit from the stork. Erma Bull went by plane to Arkansas to visit with her son Lawrence, over the weekend. She is looking forward to going go-ing abroad to Spain with her daughter Bernice Wulf and family. The Don Curtis family had various experiences over the weekend. They had their basement flooded and some mighty welcome aid from beighbors. Sunday they were happy to attend Sacrament meeting where their daughter Amy Jo spoke prior to her departure for the California Sacramento Mission. She will enter the mission home May 31. The Curtises were joyful at the many friends and relatives rela-tives who attended the Sacrament services and visited visit-ed with them. Among them were Don's uncle and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bryan and children, Becky and Bruce, of Twin Falls, Ida., as well as their married son Chuck and wife Sue, of Provo; Jean's dad. Alma Bowman, of Pocatello, Ida., and her mother and sister, Geneva and Maurine Nelson of Tremonton; Steve Jensen and four children; friends, Dee and ReNae Nortin and two children of Honeyville; and Amy Jo's friend, Trish Arm-ga, Arm-ga, of Boise, Ida. Julie Webb and husband, and baby, are moving to South Bountiful; while Es-telle Es-telle and Jim Lance are moving mov-ing to Colorado. Julie lives in the West Bountiful Ward. The Lances have been living in the former Ron Hodges' home, off 16th North. The Peyton Dennises enjoyed en-joyed the recent visit of Denise's mother, Mrs. Edith Nelson, of Idaho. She had returned re-turned from visit to Western Australia, where she had met her missionary son Ken Nelson. Nel-son. Ken also visited in West Bountiful after his return. Maria Willette and family enjoyed dinner at the home of the Albert Merrells' Monday evening. Maria likes to come home to mother and father for family evening. |
