Show Dick Allen By Pete Fritchle Dick Allen, now back with Philadelphia after a poor personal history with that club earlier, hasn't missed many opportunities to blast the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta since he quit the Chicago White Sox during the season last year. ASKED BY a reporter in Philadelphia why he didn't consider playing for Atlanta, which bought his contract, Allen said if he could have changed the color of his skin, he might have played. Allen's remarks are not overly important; what is important is that he doesn't know much about Atlanta, s Atlanta now has a black mayor, and a popular one. Its race relations history is much better than many comparable cities. IT IS a fast-growing, progressive city, and the Braves have had many top black stars in recent years-who years-who got on well with the fans and enjoyed the city and its living condition. Nor is the club or its management anti-black. |
