EIGHTH West became Onion Street many years ago. In the 1920's, according to Del Noble, long time resident of the community, the farmers began growing onions. At that time they, were growing Yellow Denver Onions and selling them on the Grower's Market. In 1924 George Mann Jr. .went on a mission to England. Later he was able to visit in Spain. In 1925 he sent one pound of sweet Spanish onion seeds to his father, George Mann Sr. This seed was divided between George Mann, Will Winegar, and Wallace Noble. They planted the seed and grew onions from the onion sets. From that time on the farmers grew seed from the sweet Spanish onion. IN 1927 the farmers started shipping onions all over the United States through E. Muir & Co. and Sterling H. Nelson. Through that period, from 1928 on, there were as many as 250 to 300 cars of onions a year shipped from West Bountiful.
