Show Fire Guts Freeport Building A 10,000 square foot Freeport Center Building was destroyed Wednesday when sparks of heat from an electric fan ignited paint and caused a "fire to break out. THE FIRE broke out in a paint room in the center of the Beazer Manufacturing Co. where workers put finishing paints on the metal products manufactured by the firm. Sherman L. Beazer, Ogden, owner of the business, estimated es-timated damage to the contents con-tents at $200,000. Officials at the Freeport Center, which lease the building to the company, com-pany, estimated the damage to the structure at $60,000. BOOTH CRABTREE of West Point, was in the paint room when a flash of fire ran along the floor. Mr. Crabtree told officials the whole room then burst into flames. He was not injured in the incident. Another employe, Kevin Porter of 442 N. Main, Clearfield Clear-field received burns on his hands, arms and face when he stayed in the building to telephone for help. THE ENTIRE east end of the building was engulfed by the time the 20 volunteer Clearfield Clear-field firemen arrived at the scene. According to Elmo Hodson, Clearfield fire chief, 55 gallon drums of paint exploded during dur-ing the firefighting effort with some shooting several feet into the air. mnm |
