Show Memorial Day Fittingly Observ ed By City Due respect and remembrance was paid those resting in the American Fork cemetery Saturday by the many people who visited the graves of their loved ones during the day. A large number of these people were from outside of the city. With an abundance of beautiful flowers on all sides, and ideal weather weath-er conditions, the cemetery presented present-ed a most pleasant aspect and many commented upon the splendid condition con-dition of our "City of the Dead." With weeds carefully chopped down and all plots well attended to, the cemetery was in an orderly condition for all visitors. Following a serenade by the high school band led bv Mr. Bird and an address of welcome by Mayor Adam-son, Adam-son, a pageant was presented by the members of the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. - The pageant was written and directed by Mrs. Delbert Chipman and was "In Mem-oriam" Mem-oriam" to the War Dead of this city. H. E. McNeiill was reader. The first part of the pageant to the theme of "Sleep Soldier Boy" depicted the spirit of loyalty and the bringing of remembrances by the Gold Star Mother, Mrs. Synthia Okey; Service Star Mother, Mrs. William Miller; Red Cross nurse, Mrs. Murray 'Murdock; American Legion Auxiliary, Mrs. J. J. Mercer; Civil War Veteran, J. W. Widdoes; and the World War Veteran, Adolph Pulley. Mrs. Ethel Graff represented represent-ed Loyalty. The Spirit of Demoracy, ' Liberty and Peace entered and gave of their truths to the story. The .third part was the Flowers of Spring and their awakening as the resurrection will call forth all that sleeps. The spirits were represented by Berniece Miller, Mrs. Nan Peck and Mrs. Parduhn. The flowers were girls from -Mrs. Edgar Eooth's dancing class.. The pageant characters were members of the Legion and Legion Auxiliary. Music during the pageant was furnished by Mr. Bird and the band members, Kenneth Robinson, Darrell Wanlass, Cecil Hansen and Dean Gordon. Through the cooperation of the city council, seats were furnished making it much nicer for the raarfy who gathered to enjoy the program. The early morning traffic was very capably taken care of by the members mem-bers of the fire department. o. |
