Show Lehi smothers Park City in JV football The Miner junior varsity dropped its third straight football game 34-0 to the Lehi Pioneers last Thursday at Park City High School football field. "They were simply bigger, faster and more experienced," said Coach Craig Watson. "All of our guys are freshmen and sophomores, whereas they had some juniors and maybe seniors playing. They got three quick scores and it was just difficult for our kids to play catch-up." Park City was simply outmanned by Lehi. In the first half, the Miners gained 27 yards rushing and 19 yards passing. In the second half, they were held to minus 24 yards rushing and gained 13 yards passing. The Pioneers dominated offensively offen-sively throughout the game. In the first half, when they couldn't get their running game going (11 total yards including minus 9 in the second se-cond quarter), they passed. Their quarterback, Scott Price, hit six of eight passes for 116 yards en route to a 28-0 lead. In the second half, Lehi replaced Price with Joe Grant and the Pioneers ran. They amassed 122 JV Miners dig in against bigger Lehi foes. JlmSmedley Spanish Fork, which they beat by six points. They disposed of North Summit Sum-mit 34-7 and Grantsville 45-6 before playing the Miners. "On defense, we rotate 22 boys and rotate 18 in on offense," Achziger said. "We very much have a platoon system with only six boys playing both ways." He said practicing with the varsity every day keeps the JV team sharp. The JV Miners' next game is in Grantsville Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. yards on 15 carries, but much to the Miner defense's credit, the Pioneers only scored once. "I thought we played a respectable respec-table second half. Even though they gained some yards, our defense held many times," Watson said. "Todd Hixon played well at cornerback and Jeff Taylor did a good job, at linebacker after making some mistakes earlier. Brandon Verig also looked good at safety." Coach Watson also credited his offensive of-fensive line, saying that although there is room for improvement, on the whole they did not do badly. "Darren Bean played his first game and Brook Oswald played his best game to date, ' ' Watson said. The Pioneers, coached by Ed Achziger, rolled to their fourth consecutive con-secutive win.
