Show Park City Women dribble to defeat in soccer match ' ..:: ' ' . ' js5!Wii . ... . ... . The Park City Kicks lost their kick last Saturday in going down to the Berlin Women's Club 4-0 at the Park City High School field. It was a closely played first half with Berlin scoring its first goal about midway through the period on a kick by Connie Rogers. She sailed one high that escaped the grasp of an outstretched Nicki Koch, who was in goal for Park City. "We played well the first half. All of us were moving toward the ball and playing our positions," said Kicks's captain Nettie Franzen. "At halftime we were jazzed because their goal was a fluke. We felt as if we could really win the game." Berlin took control immediately in the second half and with five minutes elapsed they took a 2-0 lead. It got worse 10 minutes after that. Two Berlin players broke down the right side of the field putting Franzen at a disadvantage. Franzen took the player dribbling the ball, hoping to get help from her teammates. team-mates. However, the ball was passed pass-ed to Berlin's Annie Thompson, who was at full sprint while passing Franzien. "I had no chance of catching her," Franzen said. Thompson belted one past Koch and Berlin was leading 3-0. "It is hard to come back three goals with only 20 minutes left to the game," Franzen said. "But although we knew we probably couldn't win, we tried not to let down," Franzen said. Franzien said Jeanie Brennan played well at left fullback and noted the play of Diane Spainhower who was quick to the ball and served up some booming goal kicks and Jeanie Brown, who did a good job at midfield. A key to the Berlin win was the play of Chris Eastman, who was a good dribbler and bottled up the ball in the Kicks' part of the field. Marie Midboe also performed well in goal. Berlin also disrupted play when the Kicks came close to their goal and were able to keep the pressure on offensively by breaking loose for power plays against the Park City fullbacks. "We're going to try and win next week," said Franzen. "But we're going go-ing to have to work more on our of-- of-- fensive attack." The Kicks record evened out at 1-1, while Berlin rose to 2-0. The Kicks's next game will be on Sept. 28 at 1 : 30 p.m. on the Park City High School field. Kicks' Jeannie Brunner (right) sails pass downfield before defender can cut it off. jsdiey |
