'Up' musical show to play at middle school Oct. 1 5 The international cast of the Up With People musicial troupe will bring its all-new show, "Beat of the Future," to the Treasure Mountain Middle School on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The show will be sponsored by the Park Record, the Park City Area Chamber of CommerceConvention Com-merceConvention & Visitors Bureau and Park City Performances. The 180-member cast consists of natives of 18 countries who travel around the world one year while performing per-forming the show the educationalcultural educa-tionalcultural organization, based in Tuscon, Ariz., hopes will further international understanding. "Beat of the Future" is an entertaining enter-taining but thoughtful look at life in the 21st century barely a decade away in which there are floating cities, interstellar travel, songwriting computers and a global community. Up With People's energetic style has been featured at an unprecedented un-precedented three NFL Super Bowl halftimes. And the audience is always part of the show. In "Beat of the Future," audience members may find themselves singing with a computer or dancing in the aisles with a Japanese lion. In a medley of songs that range from ragtime to rock and roll, the cast predicts the music and dances of the past will be "Back in Style" in the year 2000 and today's hits will be the golden oldies of the future. An international medley will continue con-tinue Up With People's tradition of taking audiences on a musical tour around the world and includes a Chinese ribbon dance, the Russian gopak, a Scandinavian polka and an old-fashioned American hoedown. Futurist and space artist Robert McCall has contributed work for two special multi-image segments of the show. His murals and paintings are featured in Omni magazine, at EP-COT EP-COT Center in Orlando, Fla., and at the Smithsonian Institution's National Na-tional Space and Aeronautics Museum in Washington, D.C.
