Show Guest musicians to join Utah Symphony Sept. 27, 28 ': Vl Conductor Jorge Mester and pianist Andras Schiff will perform three concerts with the Utah Symphony Sept. 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. at Symphony Hall in Salt Lake City. The program will include Schubert's "Symphony in D Major, No. 3," Tchaikovsky's "Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat for Piano and Orchestra" and Stravinsky's "Jeu De Cartes." Franz Schubert (1797-1828) began his "Third Symphony" May 24, 1815, and completed it the following July. He never heard it or any of his symphonies performed. "Symphony No. 3" was not given its first complete performance until Dec. 2, 1860. The first American performance perfor-mance was by the New York Philharmonic in 1930. Peter Hyitch Tchaikovsky's (1840-1893) (1840-1893) "Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat for Piano and Orchestra" premiered in the United States by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1875. Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) completed com-pleted this ballet, "The Card poker. The piece is one of Stravinsky's most inviting scores. Jorge Mester is music director of the Aspen Music Festival and the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra. He recently rejoined the faculty of the Juilliard School of Music as Chairman of conducting for several major American opera companies, including the New York City Opera. He began conducting opera while still a student at Juilliard, where he first joined the faculty at age 22. Hungarian-born pianist Andras ' Schiff has appeared with virtually every major orchestra in the United States. He made his U.S. debut in 1978 at Carnegie Hall in New York City .with the Franz Liszt Orchestra of Budapest. He also has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, Orches-tra, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Israel Philarmonic.
