Show Union sloshes win over PC cross country team The Park City High School crosscountry cross-country team lost its first meet of the year 26-34 to Union High School on a cold, rainy afternoon last Wednesday. It was a dual meet plus one as Wendover High School in Nevada sent its only cross-country runner, Ted Crawford, to the meet. "The weather was just so miserable," said Coach Bill Kahn. "I don't train the kids to run in ankle-deep mud. However, I felt we ran well despite the rain." Kahn said the nasty weather threw everyone's time off by two to three minutes. The average winning time for the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) distance is usually around the 18-minute mark, he added. Union's Kent Wilkerson turned in the best time of 20:15 and his teammate team-mate Dan Pohl was second at 20 : 33. The top runner for Park City was Mike Richards, who turned a 21 : 12. Wendover's Crawford was fourth at 21: 29. The next-fastest Miners were Mark Stewart, eighth, and Mike Eichner and Joey Whitesides, who ran 10th and 11th respectively. Five Park City girls were entered and Union was represented by one female runner. Park City's Pam Finegan and Abbey Ab-bey Peterson finished in a dead heat for top honors among the girls, both turning in 27 :56s. Union's Karma Mortensen was third at 28:15. |
