Girl kickers get the air Jim Smedley Shannon Brunner mixes it up with Cosmo player in girl's league action. The Cosmos defeated the Park City girls' soccer team 1-0 last Saturday Satur-day at the Park City High School field. "Our strategy was to play a good defensive first half and wear the girls from Salt Lake City out," said Donnie Berry, assistant coach for the Park City team. "We figured the altitude would have its effect on them in the second half. It didn't exactly ex-actly work out like that, though." .. As a matter of fact, the opposite was true. Except for the early moments of the second half, the Cosmos were able to keep the ball on Park City's half of the field. Valerie Jacox scored the winning goal in the first half when teammate Allison Ballstaedt's shot deflected off a Park City player and she punched it in. , Outstanding goalie work by Kery Lewis and Megan Holcomb, however, kept the Cosmos from scoring more. Gina Glenne played goalie for Park City in the first half and had seven saves. Shannon Nobis and Jessie " Whitesides played well defensively,' "by protecting the area near the goal," according to Berry. The next Park City girls' team game will be on Sept. 28 at noon at the high school field. N |
