Show Miners to find out where the beef is Park City High School's varsity football team will find out where the beef is this weekend when they take on a hefty Grantsville Cowboys squad on the Miners' home turf. Grantsville defeated Lehi (which just thumped the Miners 21-0) by a 28-22 score in its second game of the 1985 season. Consider this: The front defensive defen-sive four, all listed as defensive tackles on the roster, weigh in at an average of 209 pounds. The biggest Cowboy is Jason Murray, a junior who tips the scales at 230. There's just about as much beef on the other side, where 220-pound junior Craig Williams is anchored. The other two linemen are a bit smaller. Senior Scott Harrison is only 192 pounds and sophomore Clint Christiansen is two pounds heavier. The Cowboys play a 4-4 stack defense four linemen, two inside in-side and outside linebackers, two cornerbacks and a safety. They will change to a 5-3 on occasion and use a 6-2 for goalline stands. Offensively, they will run from either a tight slot or an I-formation. I-formation. The Miner scouting report says they run the option well and the line blocks well for " their tough, fast backs. The Cowboys are led by southpaw quarterback Paul Cook, who pitches out to Jared Hunsaker one of the best backs in 2-A football or Cary Burr, a senior who also knows how to run with the ball. "They will be the best 2-A team we've seen this year. They are very well coached, have good size and can run and pass effectively," effective-ly," said Miner head coach Bob Burns. "Their defense is a contain con-tain defense they'll spread out and cover all the field but they will also swarm the ball." Eric Hales and James Clahane are questionable for the Miners, because they are nursing minor injuries. Lee Hughes, who receiv-. receiv-. ed a minor injury last week, will play this week. "We were not prepared mentally mental-ly or physically to play Lehi. We needed to have a great game to defeat Lehi and obviously we didn't," Burns said. "Since Grantsville is so much bigger than us, we will have to have a great game against them if we expect to win." Burns said the team has been working on the option game and downfield blocking because he has not been happy with the running runn-ing game. w Jim Smedley James Clahane is escorted off the field. |
