Show Ski clinic for handicapped brings 60 to P.C. The 52 Association has returned to the Park City Ski Area this year to offer four days of special learn-to-ski clinics for the handicapped. The participants spent Monday registering for classes, picking up their outriggers and other specially-adapted equipment and meeting other participants and their hosts. Tuesday and Wednesday they attended classes and by Thursday they will be ready for informal races. The 52 Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping handicapped people reach toward rehabilitation through sports. According to Director of Public Relations Bori Rauchman, the response to this year's Learn-to-Ski Clinics across the country has been "phenomenal." The participation in this week's Park City clinic doubled over last year's, she said. The clinics are sponsored by the Southland Corporation, which owns the 7 -Eleven convenience stores, and by local businesses. Sixty handicapped skiers have registered for the classes being offered in Park City this week. Many of them have never skied before. All of them are amputees, having lost one or both legs, or an arm. The 52 Association's philosophy is that the handicapped can participate in any sport. "We have participants from Alaska to Mexico here this week," said Rauchman, |
