' y Chuck Folkerth and Jim Voorhees play brothers whose destinies shift in the course of Sam Shepard's "True West." Local actors tackle new Sam Shepard play When "True West" opens at the Egyptian Theatre Feb. 17, it will mark one of the rare occasions that a community theater group has presented Sam Shepard's powerful new comedydrama. Directing this Park City Performances production is Ed Britt, who recently completed his master's degree in Theatre Arts at the University of Utah. Britt is no newcomer to the Egyptian. He also directed "Prisoner of Second Avenue" and You're Good Man, Charlie Brown." Featured in "True West" are Chuck Folkerth as the black sheep brother, Lee; Jim Voorhees as Austin, the Ivy League writer brother; Dick Mitchell as Saul Kimmer, the producer; and Madeline Smith as the slightly confused mother of the boys. The play itself takes place in the San Gabriel Valley of California. The mother of the two sons has taken a vacation to Alaska to escape the L.A. heat and smog and has asked her son Austin, the successful playwright, to house-sit while she is away. As Austin is diligently working on his latest project, watering his mother's multitude of plants and taking care of her immaculate suburban home, his long-lost brother Lee appears for a visit. What ensues is the conflict con-flict between these seemingly opposite personalities, a conflict that is at times terrifying, comical, pathetic, but always gripping. ... The production will open Friday, Feb. 17, withne traditional opening night reception in the lobby of the theater at 7 p.m. Curtain on Friday night and each night thereafter is 8 p.m. The show will continue Saturday, Satur-day, Feb. 18, and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Feb. 22-26.
