Show KPCW charts move to Marsac by Christopher Smart The City Council set the stage May 17 for Park City's community radio station, KPCW, to move its studios from the Memorial Building to the newly revamped Marsac Municipal Building. The council voted unanimously unani-mously to lease approximately approxi-mately 1,500 square feet of space on the lower floor of the city administration building build-ing to KPCW at the rate of $1 a year. The lease agreement will run for five years. The agreement is very similar to the one the radio station now has with the city for space in the Memorial Building, according to KPCW Station Manager Blair Feulner. He said the radio station will actually be occupying less space in Marsac than it currently does in the Memorial Building. The council's action clears the way for an application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the move, Feulner said. The swiftness with which the FCC acts on the application will determine, to some extent, when the station can make the move, he said. Another major factor in the proposed move, Feulner said, is the expense involved in moving the station's studios. He described mov- ing the complex radio equipment equip-ment as "labor intensive." The move could cost up to $30,000, two thirds of which would be labor charges. Feulner said he is soliciting volunteer electrical engineers engi-neers for the project. Depending on the FCC ruling, grant funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and labor donations, dona-tions, the move could take place anywhere from late summer to late autumn, Feulner said. The appraised value of the rental space can be used as an "in kind" donation for a matching grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Broad-casting, Feulner said. He added that without the donated space the radio station would not be able to afford to operate. |
