Show City, planners 'iron ouf RDA problems Members of the Park City Planning Commission are still concerned about Redevelopment Re-development Agency (RDA) building plans in Swede Alley. But relations between the commission and City Council have been ironed out, said Commissioner Ron Whaley. On Wednesday, May 23, the commission for the third time considered a request to rezone part of Swede Alley to accommodate RDA plans. Results of the Wednesday meeting were not available at press time. On two previous occasions the commission tabled the requests. The commission asked for more specific site plans and expressed concern they were being rushed through the only chance to review the project. But Whaley told the Record, "The City Council assured us there hasn't been anything put in concrete." Part of the rezone would apply to a parking structure for Silver Mill Mall. Commissioner Steve Deckert said he supported that parking, but didn't like a city proposal that tied it to an office parking structure that would extend down Swede Alley to a point below the southern end of the Marsac Building. He said he would like to see the area west of the Marsac Building parking lot as open space. "I wish we'd had more input sometime some-time back. But these are our elected officials and we put out trust in them" he said. Commissioner Brad Olch also said he would like to see more open space in the city's plans. He is most concerned about the mass of the office garage structures and a hotel proposed for the area north of Marsac, he added. Commissioner Randall Rogers said the planner would approve rezoning in Swede Alley "if we have a little more information." |
