Show Trevino, Barber sign up for an encore at Jeremy When Texas neighbors Lee Trevino and Miller Barber teamed up to fashion a 13-under-par 59 in the final round of the 1983 Shootout at Jeremy Ranch, they established estab-lished an 18-hole tournament record for the Shootout, which features a member of the regular PGA Tour teaming team-ing with a member of the PGA Senior Tour in a 72-hole best ball. But Trevino and Barber believe they can improve on near perfection. So the Texans have announced that they will team up again in the 1984 Shootout at Jeremy Ranch Aug. 20-26. Trevino, whose record includes victories in the 1968 and 1971 U.S. Opens, had the hot putter in last year's closing round of the Shootout to help the team record the 59. Barber was a four-time winner on the 1983 Senior Tour. The jovial Trevino is in the midst of a spirited comeback after fighting various back ailments in 1981 and 1982. His greatest year on the Tour was 1980 when he collected three championships, banked S385,814 to finish second on the money list, and won his fifth Vardon Trophy with a scoring average of 69.73 for 82 rounds. His 1980 average was the lowest on the PGA Tour since Sam Snead's 69.23 in 1950. |
