Show Madonna Harris (upper center) breaks away and launches the ball past the KWHO goalie. Silver Kicks bounce back with 7-0 win by Nan Chalat You can't keep l good team down. After taking a beating the previous week the Silver Kicks bounced back Saturday with a 7-0 win over KWHO, a Salt Lake team which usually gives the Kicks a run for their money. In the first spring match on home turf, the Silver Kicks blasted out of the bleachers on the offensive and maintained their advantage advan-tage through most of the game. The only complaint came from goalie Bernadette Ott. According to coach Kathy Benner, Ott got lonely during the second half because all the action was at the opposite op-posite side of the field. Early in the game a new face appeared on the Kicks' front line. And before KWHO had a chance to size her up, Stephanie Palmer had taken charge of the ball and planted it in the KWHO goal. And just in case they didn't see her the first time, the feisty eighth grader nabbed the ball again and scored a second goal five minutes later. The next player to beat the KWHO goalie was a familiar one. Roxanne Toly took a pass from Madonna Harris and nailed it into the net. Shortly afterwards the ball moved to the Park City side but before long Harris took a lead pass, outran all of the other players and beat the goalie with a clear shot. The score at the half was Park City 4, KWHO. Although the visitors had not scored a goal they had been very successful at pulling the Silver Kicks offense of-fense offside. By halftime KWHO had earned almost 15 indirect Kicks as a result of the cagey strategy. To remedy the situation Benner cut the front line down from four to two forwards. for-wards. The second two forwards for-wards moved into the halfback half-back position with Toly and Harris out front backed up by Palmer and Heidi Hunter, there were no more offsides calls. Harris scored two more breakaway goals and then Chris Smith took the ball and worked through the entire en-tire KWHO defense to score the Kicks' seventh goal. "They really clicked this week. The passes were really good, they were crossing the field and they talked to each other. That was the key," Benner said. |
