Show Jeremy Ranch hosts Boy Scouts The Varsity Scouts from the Summit District spent a two-day rendezvous with the Wagon Wheel District at the Jeremy Ranch last weekend The camp was set up with two large tepees in the center cen-ter to depict the "mountain man" theme. Participating troops were Henefer I, Coalville I, Coalville II, Peoa, Oakley, Park City II, Mountain view, and Snyder-ville, Snyder-ville, with a total of 36 participants. par-ticipants. The scouts competed in a black powder rifle shoot which consisted of shooting at buffalo silouhettes, feathers, and candle flame. Sean Hines of Peoa came away with the candle shoot award. Activities and contests were designed so that the boys had to rely on their previous training. The contests con-tests included fire starting and a compass course. Also involved were tests of strength such as the mountain moun-tain man run, tug-o-war, tomahawk throw, and a fry pan toss. Mark Eaton, center for the Utah Jazz, who is an Eagle Scout himself, talked to the scouts giving them encouragement en-couragement and counsel. All scouts are encouraged to watch for a similar District Rendezvous next year. Boy Scout Camporee At the same time the Varsity Scout Rendezvous was being held, the Boy Scouts were busy as well. Friday night was spent around the campfire. After a flag ceremony Saturday Sat-urday morning the real competition Degan. ine events went from fire-building, fire-building, knot tying, log-poling, log-poling, tent pitching, first aid, Indian lore, and obstacle course to relay races. Each patrol group tried to outdo the other as they accumulated ac-cumulated points throughout the day. The Varsity Scouts, Boy Scouts, and their leaders wish to express a special thanks to Joremy Ranch where they have met the past two years. |
