Show ICHEWINfl GUM CHOKES A BOY Salt Lake, June 16. Chowlng gum lodged in the bronchial tube of Francis Fran-cis Dcckor, 11 years of age, tho son or E. M. Decker, IOCS Second avonuo, almost cost the life of the little boy. After being seriously 111 for two weeks tho little fellow finally dislodged the gum, coughed it up and Is now on the road to recovery. Ho Is at St, Mark's hospital, where last night It was said he wns out of danger. The hoy was taken seriously 111 a fortnight ago, suffering from what was apparently congestion of tho lungs. He breathed with tho greatest difficulty and sufferod severe pulmonary pulmo-nary pains. Tho malignity of the boy's affliction puzzled his parents and physicians. His condition became be-came so serious that his life wns despaired de-spaired of Tlie boy had said nothing about having swallowed the gum, and there was no way to account for his critical condition. Ho was removed to the St. Mark's hospital, where he has been for two weeks. Finally the hoy began to suffer with a violent hemorrhage and It was thought the end was near. During tho hemorrhage the boy coughed up a wad of chewing gum and Immediately was greatly relieved. It then dovoloped that the youngster had gone to bed with the chewing gum In his mouth ten days or two weeks ago. Ho evidently evi-dently swallowed tho gum during the ' night and awakened In the morning in considerable distress His bronchial tube was so stopped up by the gum that breathing was a torture and hia lungs became congested. At present tho boy's condition Is very much Improved. Tho removal or tho chowlng gum has solved tho mystery mys-tery of. his aliment and has also gone a great way toward curing It. His suffering Is still considerable, but his prompt recovery Is now predicted |
