Show H THINK FOR YOURSELF. H Muro than one million dollars Is H spent annually over the bars of the M fitly odd saJoons In Ogden city. That H represents $40.00 for evory person M In Ogden City, every year. Of that M $-10.00, Ogden City get3 back In llcons- H es $2 00 per head, and the saloon re- M tains $38.00 per head for Its own M uses and expenses. Why would It M be such an awful calamity to have H ihe city tax every man, woman and H child $2.00 more per year than It H does now In order to keep up Its rev- H enues when the saloon goes out of H business? The city could collect that M tax from each Inhabitant, replenish H its revenues, and could leave each H ycreon $3S.00 better off, each year, H than under tho present system! And H still -we are told that It will kill busl- M ness, destroy trado and leave a dead M city. We hao some wonderful pb!i- M osophers, and we have some "power- lulls'" silly people who profess to ( H really Relieve such philosophy. Mfcn H nnd women: Why not use your own j H conclusions, your own analysis, your H own thoughts on this question, and see Hl if yon are not really being brought up M against the greatest bunco system of H the age! Do not take the argumont of H tho saloon or its apologists, the so- H called "Manufacturers and Business H Jien's Association," but use your own H reasoning and see how fallacious and H silly their argument becomes. H So much for tho financial featuro M of it. Now for tho temperance argu- H ment. H You are being asked to vote against H prohibition and to vote for temper- H ance. The logic of that argument is M that tho open saloon and temperance M are synonymous. Think of that a H moment, and see if you do not dis- H cover their sophistry. In order to M vote for temperanco you are asked H to vote for the open saloon. Look H over your past experience and obser- H rations and note what temperance ser- H raons have been preached by the sa- M loon Are they such as you can en- M dorse, 6uch as you would make the M guide for your life, such as good men HJ and women should delight to follow? H Surely not. Then what of their ar- M guraent? Only sophistry, sham, ar- M rogance and deceit! Yet we hear M good men and women mouthing the M 1 same vaporlngs and using them as M good reasons for their course in vot- H ing for a "wet" town and tho contln- Hj nation of the saloon. Again, Men and Hl Women: Do a little thinking for your- H self and do not be misled into an M I act of "which you may become ashamed H ' and certainly will have cause to regret H for the future. |
