Show THE "WELL REGULATED SALOON VS. THE "BLIND TIGER." Without attempting to be sarcastic, but in an effort to put the Whiskey Trust's argument into a condensed form, we give below a supposed speech of a saloon keeper, said speech having been committed to memory from the dictation of the Beer Brewers' association: asso-ciation: "Ladles and Gentlemen: Behold here before us; right here in our very midst, but controlled by us, the fiercest, fierc-est, most blood-thirsty, carnlverous, drink-dispensing and civilization-destroying animal known to man. "With hearts overflowing with love for humanity, and regard for the church and Christianity, tho home and the school, wo say to vou .with all sincerity, sin-cerity, that If you close up our decent, de-cent, respectable, orderly and well-regulated well-regulated saloons, we will turn our animal loose, and he will immediately become legions, and take complete possession of your city; defy your laws, and thus deprive you of a decent de-cent place for your girls' and boys' to go to, our saloons, and you will have no poor man's club. "I)ok at him, Ladies and Gentlemen! Gentle-men! He is tugging at his chains now, in wild anticipation of feasting on your children! Our decent respectable, re-spectable, orderly and well-regulated saloons only destroy one boy out of every five of your familles; a mere pittance: "But he, our 'blind tiger!' Upon our yord and sacred honor, Ladles and Gentlemen, he would take all of your boys nnd also your girls, yourselves, your cousins and your aunts; j'our buclness, your city, state and nation! So vote "wet" for us." |
