VETERANS' OUTING 10 BE BIG EVENJ A meeting of the general committee ot arrangements In preparation of the grand outing of the United Spanish Span-ish War Veterans was held ai Armory hall last evening. Among the prominent promi-nent members of the organization present were Judge J, JD. Murphy, Louis C Meek, George" Wardiaw and Joseph Wessler. Vice Commander Joseph Walters '-presided- in absence of Commander O.; .Baxter, who Is at present at Hber .City with the stato troops. Comrade Joseph Wessler reported report-ed that he had been 'to Salt Lake Sun-diiy Sun-diiy and had met In convention with representatives of the Salt Lake camps, both military and civilian and that it had been unanimously decideJ to hold the annual department outing this year at Ogden canyon on August 19th Sergeant Geo. E Kelcn of the Fifteenth Fif-teenth U. S. Infantry was appointed chairman of the general committee of arrangements It was decided that the Salt Lake camps would co-operate with Harry E. Young camp or Ogden, In tho matter and entrusted the making of arrangements to It under un-der their supervision. At the meeting last evening It was the 'unanimous vote of all present that the nlayor of Ogden and tho commanding officers of Fort Douglas and the olliclals of the Wober club and Chamber of Commerce of this city be invited to attend the celebration, and it was further decided de-cided that a, cordial and -urgent invitation invi-tation be extended to the Fifteenth U. S. infantry band 'of 30 pieces to come to Ogden on the above date and enliven things in general with the strains of martial nuslc. Comrades Murphy and Wardiaw were appointed as a committee to interview the variousrallroad officials as to rates, and Comrades Wessler and Cleary were chosen to look after the refreshments end of the celebration. celebra-tion. Apropos of tho famous Fifteenth U S. Infantry band, this musical organization or-ganization Is considered the best m the United States army and the people peo-ple of Ogden and vicinity will be given giv-en a rare treat to hear this splendid musical aggregation of high class artists for the last time before they depart for Manila. From reports received the garrison of Fort Douglas will send a io-o delegation as well as Salt Lake. The outing will be the largest ever seen here and no expense or labor will be spared to make it a success. There will be another special meeting meet-ing of the camp tomorrow evening at Armory hall at 8 o'clock, and it is the wish of the officers commanding that every member attend |
