Show Hermie's continues hold on Recreation league lead With only three weeks remaining in the Cedar Recreation League, Hermies holds a two-game lead over runner up Lockhart. Gary's Texaco came within one run of Hermies, and Savemore Arco came within two, but no one else has come anywhere close to Hermies. In this past weeks' ' action, Lockhart trailed Cedar Builders the entire game. But Cedar Builders saw their one run lead evaporate in the bottom of the last inning when Danny Cook hit two runs in with the bases loaded, giving Lockhart the victory. The last three days of the week saw games played on rain-soaked rain-soaked fields. After losing four one-run contests, Gary's Texaco won one of their own by the same margin as they edged Northeast 11-10. But they lost another one run outing to Lunt Motor 8-7. Behind the strong pitching of Kurt Lambeth, Lunt Motor's batters were able to muster one more run than the Texaco crew. Lambeth struck out 13 batters. But Texaco's Mont Widick struck out 14 of the Lunt Motor hitters to eclipse Lambeth's good showing. Michael Chidester scored two runs for Lunts, but his biggest score was his game winning run in the top of the sixth with 2 down. Savemore Arco challenged league leading Hermies on a drenched field, but the water, coupled with the pitching of Kurt Higbee dampened more than their enthusiasm. Both teams scored 3 runs in the first, but Savemore went ahead one in the second. Hermies regained the ,lead in the third, and Higbee's pitchin pitching shut out Arco. In the last two innings, he faced only 7 batters, and he struck out 5 of them. Hermies 9--0 Lockhart. 7-2 Savemore 6-2 Cedar Builders 4-5 Northeast 3-5 Gary's Texaco 3-6 Lunt Motor 3-6 Antones 0-9 |
