Show Turkey harvest low report shows Once again, Utah's spring turkey hunters have found the sport isn't easy and their quarries shrewd and cautious. Division of Wildlife Resources Biologist Mike Welch has received 82 responses from 103 permit buyers with four reporting success. Part of the reason, however, for the low success rate could be that many hunters only spent one day afield, he noted. Turkeys were taken on the Blue Mountain-Elk Hidge, Boulder Mountain and East Zion units. Several who didn't get their birds did report sighting some. Three different hunters reported seeing eight turkeys on the East Zion unit, while another hunter reported seeing six. Seven were sighted on the LaSal Mountains, five in the Boulder Mountains and 20 were noted on the Blue Mountain-Klk Ridge area. Seven more turkeys were reported, but hunters didn't specify their location. This year's season is comparable com-parable to 1974 s spring turkey season when 1 12 nimrods brought home six gobblers for five percent per-cent success. |
