Show R0LL0GlyphicsKyuEN hollo It is hard to believe what some people will do when it comes to stealing, apparently without thought as to possible consequences con-sequences of their action. A case in point is the theft that occurred recently in Parowan Canyon. A group of men had left Cedar City to spend some time working at a project to clear the center line of the road into the proposed scout camp in that area. Since the road is not constructed the car had been pulled off the main highway and the men had hiked in, with chain saws, to spend an nearly a week the late afternoon thunderstorms failed to materialize in town, but in the mountains the storms came. It is interesting to note that at Cedar Breaks Sunday nearly .three inches of what appeared to be a combined hail and snow had built up creating a slushy condition on the roads and turning otherwise green pastures into patches of white. July 13 and still shades of late spring on the mountain with many of the trees just getting their leaves, and snow on the ground. It's a most unusual year. L 1 L auernoon on me project. Late in the evening when they returned to the car they discovered that the battery had been stolen. Now the loss of a battery is bad enough, but, even more serious is to contemplate what might have happened if there had been an accident with those chain saws and the vehicle would have had to be used in an emergency nature. Who ever took the battery, I'm sure, did not look beyond the loss of the battery to the more serious matter of possibly leaving those men stranded should an emergency arise. It makes you shudder to comtemplate all the consequences. con-sequences. Hopefully the party or parties responsible will give it a second thought another time. We certainly hope so. It's been an unusually year, weather wise, and Sunday was no exception. For the first time in The Utah Shakespearean Festival opened its fourteenth season Thursday evening of last week and each of the first three nights the audience was forced inside for at least a portion of the production. Fortunately the transition can be made in a very few minutes and very comfortably for both the cast and the audience. In Thursday's opening production of "Merchant of Venice" the audience got quite a chuckle out of what was otherwise other-wise not one of Shakespeares humorous lines. Late in the play it was growing quite , apparent that the rains were about to come. Overhead the sky was dark with clouds and all around the outdoor theatre lightning was illuminating the sky. Many in the audience were casting quick glances at the sky as it became a distraction from the production. At that point Lorenzo and Jessica were exDondine their love. It was a line by Lorenzo that brought the quick response from the audience, when he said, "The moon is bright." It was only minutes later that the play was stopped and moved to the auditorium as the rains descended. A final note for those who thought we were being invaded by helicopters Saturday. You can rest at eaSe. It seems that a tactical unit from Phoenix, Ariz, were enroute to Camp Williams in northern Utah for a summer training camp. The 25 helicopters of the unit made a stop over in Cedar City for refueling. They will train at Camp Williams for two weeks and will make another stop at Cedar City enroute back to Phoenix, we are informed by Color Canyons Aviation. |
