Show T&C-Elks tied in National LL Arctic Circle picked up their first win of the season this past week by knocking over the league leading Elks and throwing the Cedar National Little League race into a tie between Elks and Town & Country. Arctic Circle picked up the win with a 5-2 victory over Elks with Black and Stapley sharing the mound duties. Starr suffered the loss. Elks picked up two runs on two hits in the first inning for an early lead, but from that point on the Elks were shut out and were not allowed another hit. Arctic Circle picked up a run in the second, tied the score at 2-all in the third and took the lead with three runs on four hits in the 5th. The loss left Elks and Town and Country in a collision course for the title in the National League with identical records, including a tie. The playoff of the tie might well decide the league champions fore 1978. Standings in the league going into action Monday were as follows: Elks 8 1 1 Town & Country 8 1 1 Jaycees 7 3 0 Ron's Sporting 5 5 0 Lions 4 6 0 Tink's Auto Parts.... 3 7 0 Garden Park 3 7 0 Arctic Arctic Circle. .1 9 0 Elks had to stage a come from behind win over Lions to stay in the competition Friday night. They collected a 6-5 win. In that contest Leigh was the winning pitcher and Hinton suffered the loss. Widick, the league's leading home run hitter belted a solo home in the third for Elks to give them a 3-1 lead, but Lions came bouncing back with four runs on a single hit in the top of the fourth to take the lead 5-3. Elks were held in check in the fourth but in the bottom of the fifth they took advantage of two errors and two hits to push in three runs and capture the 6-5 victory. In their other battle Elks posted a 8-3 win over Garden Park. Town & Country kept rolling along with four wins over the past two weeks. They had a 10-6 win over Ron's Sporting Goods and downed Jaycees 17-5. In that contest Petty had two triples and double to lead the way. In a contest last week against Ron's T & C scored a 14-6 victory with Petty on the mound for the win. T & C had a big second inning with eight runs on three hits with 12 batters coming to the plate. Esplin and Ferguson shared the mound duty for Ron's. In other action this past week T&C defeated Tink's Auto Parts by a score of 19-6. In that game T&C sent M. Smith, G. Anderson, B. Anderson and Jolley to the mound. Pickett was on the mound for Tink's. The T&C bats were really active with G. Turner and Jolley each collecting two doubles as well as doubles by M. Smith, Briggs and Mitchell. Turner also scored four runs in the contest. Raymer also doubled for Tinks. Jaycees had a pair of wins during the week. They downed Ron's by a score of 6-0 and defeated Tink's 15 9. Against Ron Edwards was on the mound and gave up only three hits in collecting the shutout. Lundberg and Esplin were on the mound for Ron's and they also gave up only three hits. Only extra base hit of the game was a triple by Goulding of Jaycees. Against Tink's it was Marchant and Perkins on the mound for the win. Tink's sent Pickett, Collins and Bonzo to the mound. Only extra base hit was a double by Edwards of Jaycees. Jaycees put a big fourth inning together scoring nine runs on 5 hits and had 13 men to the plate in the frame. In other games Jaycees defeated Tink's the previous week 16-8 with Marchant of Jaycees belting a homerun in the game. Although Lions lost to Elks they picked up a pair of victories defeating Garden Park 15-11 and Arctic Circle 9-6. Against Garden Park Paula Sawyers picked up the mound victory. Garden Park had Black and Jeppson on the mound. Lions built up a big head in the contest with seven runs in the third and five in the fourth. Garden Park came back with four in the fourth and seven in the 5th but it was not enough. For Garden Park Gale had a pair of doubles and Bragger and Olds both doubled for Lions. Garden Park, however, had a week during the week, a 9-4 victory over Arctic Circle. Ashdown, Black and Jeppson were on the mound for Garden Park. GP picked up four runs in the first inning in-ning withe- . benefit of a hit and were never behind in the contest. Jeppson also had a double. In a losing effort Stapel and Quinn were on the mound and Jolley homered. Schexnayder also had a double for Arctic Circle. In the only other game over the past two weeks was Ron's with a 5-1 victory over Tink's. |
