Show Dry Grass creates Fire Danger Grass fires are beginning to keep the Cedar City Fire Department busy, beginning with a 15-acre fire in the Enoch area June 18. Also on the 18th, the department was called on a fire at the Iron County Landfill, apparently caused by patrons lighting their refuse. A grass fire was extinguished ex-tinguished on June 23 at 280 South 450 West, and a firecracker-started fire was controlled behind the Woolsey .Oil Building on North Main on June 24. "People should be very cautious of outdoor fires," David Bentley, Cedar Fire Chief stated, "the grass is very high this year and is beginning to dry out." Bentley also reminded residents that firecrackers are illegal. The only legal fireworks are sparklers and caps, he said, and care should be taken in using those materials. |
