Show Pa rowan revamps trash service Parowan City, in an effort to aid in the sanitation efforts of Iron County, has entered into an agreement with J 6 D Sanitation of Parowan for garbage gar-bage pickup service. J & D, owned by Sherman Dalton, will begin a house to house service as of July 1. The first regular pickup day will be the first Thursday in July. "There will be no change in the rates people are charged," Dalton said. "There will be no change in the pick-up. The only change is that the dump will be cleaned up and the people in Parowan will be offered more service." Dalton said a "traasfer house" will soon be built at the dumpsite just west anbd south of Parowan to receive garbage residents might haul out themselves. No garbage, however, will be burned at the dump or allowed to be scattered. Rather, Dalton said, all garbage collecged or picked up at the traasfer house will be taken to the Iron County Landfill at the Smith Pit Iron Mine. J&D canisters will be placed in city parks and the cemetery Dalton said. In addition, he added, canisters will be left at specific locations, such as a resident's lot during a cleanup effort, and picked up later. "This is a real service to the residents," he said. "All they have to do is give me a call -- 477-3567 -- and I will leave a canister and they won't have to haul it." Dalton said residents are asked to have their garbage at the curbside by 7 a. m. on Thursdays. All businesses will also be provided with canister service. A card will also be issued to Parowan City residents allowing them to use the city dump as needed without charge, Dalton noted. The dump will have restricted hours, however: From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays May-September: 3-7:00 3-7:00 p.m. on Weekdays, October to April. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The dump will be closed on Sundays and holidays. |
