Show Pa rowan Stake holds "Girls Camp" PAROWAN- Parowan Stake Young Women's annual "Girls Camp" was held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of last week at Williamson's Ranch. Sixty young ladies and their leaders attended the cam-pout. cam-pout. Tuesday, the girls met at the camp and were welcomed by a group of leaders dressed in bib overalls who presented a dance to the Tennessee Wig Walk. Dancers were Beverly Taylor, Anna Mecham, Cherie Smith, Hazel Dawn Evans and Helen Turn-baugh. Turn-baugh. Theme for the camp was "Hillbillys." The girls then worked on crafts with Hazel Dawn Evans and Helen Turnbaugh, stake craft directors. They made Burlap bulletin boards, holly hobby pictures, macrame belts and fruit face pictures. Then everyone enjoyed! a dinner and movie, "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." On Wednesday, the young ladies went on three and five mile hikes and worked on crafts again. In the evening, the Parowan Stake served a delicious ribeye steak dinner with all the trimmings, cooked by Albert Orton. After dinner, a testimony meeting was held around the camp fire. Thursday morning mor-ning a "hick" fashion show; was presented by the girls with Karen Benson the winner for the hickyest costume. She was awarded a plaque as a prize. Then, each ward presented a fashion show for the group's enjoyment. en-joyment. At the close of the camp Miss Congeniality awards were given to one girl in each camp. The girls were chosen by a vote of the girls in her camp. Diane Adams was chosen from the First Ward, Teresa Lister from the Second Ward, Diane Gurr of the Third Ward, Sheri Judd from Paragonah, and Christie Austin of Summit. Awards for certification cer-tification were also presented at that time and the award for the test decorated camp was presented to the Summit Ward. Leaders who attended and participated in the camp were Colleen Adams, Diane Rasmussen, Pauline Ap-plegate, Ap-plegate, and Darlene Pendleton from the First Ward; Maryetta Rogerson, Helen Jean Stubbs from the Second Ward; Beverly Taylor, Val Topham and Ann' Gurr from the Third Ward; Shcral Condi, Pauline Hulet and Shirley White from the Summit Ward; and Hazel Jean Robinson, Judy Talbot, and Vivian Robb from the Paragonah Ward. |
