Show BEGIN DRIVE. The first sale of the Annual Lions Club button campaign was to Mayor Sawyers. Making the sale are Lioas Gerald Howes and Dennis Rowley. Lioas will use all proceeds to pay for the annual fireworks display held at the Flood Control Dikes area. Braithwaite lauded A special tribute to Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite, the man and his contribution, con-tribution, was paid by representatives of Coleman Company in a special meeting held Monday noon at Town and Country Restaurant. Sheldon Coleman, chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the International Coleman organization, praised the cooperative efforts that have existed since the establishment of the Cedar City manufacturing plant in Cedar City in 1955 and Southern Utah State College. "President Braithwaite has had a part of everything good that has happened in the Cedar City Coleman operatioins,'" Mr. Coleman stated. He further complimented the retiring president, of SUSC indicating "he (President Braithwaite) will continue to make contributions to the community." Safety Record Mr. Coleman and other executive officers from Wichita, Kan. were in Cedar City for the special occasion and to recognize the outstanding safety record that the Cedar City operation has established. "Cedar City is used as an example for the entire company," Coleman stated "with a record of not one lost time accident over the past four years." During the day the officers were at the Coleman plant where special . recognition' was paid to those responsibile for the safety record. As a token of the esteem that the Coleman organization has for Dr. Braithwaite a special presentation was made of a "Coleman" lantern iascrilx'd "in appreciation of his service to the company." I)r, Braithwaite in accepting the token of appreciation expressed his gratitude of the day when Sheldon Coleman and others visited the city looking for a location for Coleman's plant. Lauded free-enterprise "The educational systems could not fulfill their destiny without the contributions con-tributions of companies like Coleman, operating in the free enterprise system" he said. "Unless companies make a profit, colleges will dry up," he commented. "Tributes could never happen without teamwork. I receive these gifts knowing that the support of my collegues in the college and community com-munity make all this possible," Dr. Braithwaite concluded. Mr. Coleman pointed out that manufactured goods from the Cedar City plant are marketed on a worldwide world-wide basis. During the last two years items have been shipped to over 100 foreign countries. He further pointed out that all bags for the backpacking line are made in Cedar City. The Cedar City plant is consistantly productive, Coleman said. "We have felt the support of Pres. Braithwaite and the college. Pres. Braithwaite is . personally instrumental in-strumental in helping Coleman achieve its high level of productivity," produc-tivity," he said. |
