Show Bullochs endow scholarships H"-- yrfflhiitfmmiiifiimi ' - - SCIIOLAKSIIII' 1IKI.1. President Hoyden C. Hraithwaite of Southern Utah State College extends his thanks to Warren II. Hulloch for scholarship donation. Two new scholarships, one for pre-pharmacy students and one for business management students, have been endowed at Southern Utah State College. The new scholarships will be known as the Warren Higbee and June Foster Bulloch scholarships. They are named after Mr. and Mrs. Warren H. Bulloch w ho have established the endowment en-dowment which will fund two scholarships each year. "Each scholarship will be for full tuition for the academic year. One will go to a pre-pharmacy student, and one will go to a business management student," Dennis E. Agle, SUSC director of development, said. The scholarships will be awarded to students chosen by the dean of the School of Science and the dean of the School of Business and Technology. Scholarship and need will be the basic criteria in selecting recipients. "We certainly recognize and appreciate this significant contribution, " Royden C. Braithwaite, SUSC president, said. "The Bullochs have been such strong friends of the college for many, many years. We appreciate their desire to aid the college and to invest in the future through the support of education." Both Mr. and Mrs. Bulloch attended Southern Utah State College. Mr. Bulloch was awarded an honorary doctorate by SUSC in 1971. and he was recipient of the SUSC Alumni Associaton's 1977 Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Bulloch has been self employed most of his life. He has been active in the livestock business and has engaged in the mercantile, automobile, drug, and real estate businesses. He helped organize or incorporate the Southern Utah Wool Marketing Association, theldeal National Insurance Company, Pro Utah, and the State Bank of Southern Utah. He has been a member of the board of directors of California Pacific Utilities Company for 20 years and was a member of the board of Southern Utah Power Company, Cal Pac's predecessor, for 11 years. lie is also president and chairman of the board of State Bank of Southern Utah. He is now serving or has served on numerous other prestigious boards, including the Utah State Board of Regents and the SUSC Institutional Council. Civically his service includes in-cludes 20 years as a member of the Iron County Commission Com-mission (10 as chairman). He considers his outstanding out-standing achievements during this period were road development, particularly Highway U 50; the acquisition of Woods Ranch recreational area; water development; and raising the valuation of the iron mines for tax purposes. He has conlinously maintained membership in the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, including two years as president (1947-48). It was during this time, and largely through his leadership and efforts, that the college was given permission per-mission to grant four-year degrees in education. |
