Show Cedar High Redmen - Dixie Flyers battle for Region XI Championship The Cedar High School Redmen are riding the crest of a 11 game winning streak this week -- 32 games in a row if you count the 21 games enroute to a state championship last year. But it will all go for naught Friday night as they take on the Dixie Flyers in the first of two league encounters of the season. The traditional battle between the Redmen and the Flyers is slated at 8 p.m. at the Cedar High School gymnasium - the first of a home and home series to I determine a Region XI champion. Coach Dick Hobbs and his Redmen bring a 11 win no loss record into the contest with two impressive victories on. I the road this past week end. I The Flyers come in with a record of 8 and 3, but with the return of the services of their outstanding forward, Bruce Hurst, who has been out for two weeks with in- juries. i The Redmen, on the other hand, will be ' without the services of their outstanding I guard Scott Burns, who was averaging over 20 points per ga me before he suffered an ankle injury and has since had surgery. The records, however, mean nothing. It will be a tough battle and is one that pits two of the top clubs of the state against each other. Region XI does not have to take a back seat to any club. Dixie's losses this year came at the hands of Western Las Vegas - the game in which Hurst was injured, they lost to ( Clearfield in the Holiday Classic by five points and Friday night, on the road lost to Tooele 74-70 after defeating Delta by 10 at 73-63. Coach Hobbs and the Redmen were also on the road this past week. They picked up a 97-62 win at the expense of Emery Friday night and broke away from a tight first half to dominate Carbon High 80-61 Saturday evening. The offensive machine of the Redmen continued to produce, as Coach Hobbs, hopes that it will do Friday. Against Emery Steve Hair tanked 29 points and Brad Blackner had 26. Lindy Davis was also in double figures with 14. Blackner hit 13 of 16 attempts from the. field in that contest. Saturday night Hair was credited with 32 points. Blackner had 16, Brent Foley and Charles Judd were in double figures with 10 each. Hair blew the game open in the third period with five straight buckets and he hit 15 of 18 from the field and 2 of 4 from the foul line for his 32 point output. Tentatively the starting lineups will feature, for the Flyers: Bruce Hurst, Kip Staheli, Gary Allred and the Reber brothers Scott and Dave. For the Redmen Coach Hobbs is expected ex-pected to counter with Steve Hair, Brent Foley, Brad Blackner, Kim Nielson and Charles Judd. |
