Show County Assessor to open Cedar City office during Jan. and Feb. Iron County Assessor H. Dee White announced this week that an office will be opened in Cedar City each Thursday during the month of January and February to accomodate the license registration. The office will be located on the second floor of the City and County Building in Cedar City and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Assessor estimates that over 9000 automobile licenses will expire in Iron County during the two month period. V, hite also indicated that there has been some concern over a change in the assessment levied for automobiles this year. A change has been made in vehicle assessment so that a more accurate ac-curate market value could be made for tax purposes. The assessment, this year, will be based on the average trade-in value as it appears in the National Automobile Dealers Association Guide (NDAD). The NADA Guide is reliable and widely accepted within the automobile industry. According to an official of the Utah State Tax Commission, this assignment of current market value to each unit being assessed will reduce the present inequities, provide uniformity, and can be adopted to a mass appraisal technique. White noted one other change. The practice in the past of allowing families with more than one vehicle to pay taxes on one of them at county rates will not be done this year. College students will also pay taxes according to the community in which they reside. A final note from the Assessor warns residents who want the assessment applied to their real estate. This year they must bring a copy of their 1975 Tax Notice with them in order that the proper serial number is used in the transaction. Any question regarding the registration of vehicles can be directed to the Assessor at his office in Parowan during the week or in Cedar City each Thursday. |
